2026 TKA Instructor Retreat

Key Updates & Upcoming Plans

The IKD leadership team convened on March 8, 2026, to discuss important developments for the upcoming season, including training structure, competition planning, and organizational priorities.

Training Restructure Announced

A major highlight from the retreat is the restructuring of the training schedule. Moving forward, mandatory dojo training sessions will be held every two months for all members. These sessions will focus on alignment, corrections, and maintaining consistent standards across the organization.

The next sessions are being planned for:

  • May (16th or 17th) – Elite & Non-Elite training
  • July – Post-school term session
  • September 5th – Confirmed follow-up session

Additional sessions may be introduced later in the year, including a potential October training camp.

Competition Calendar & Events

The team reviewed a busy and exciting competition schedule for 2026. Key updates include:

  • Participation in the Miami Open (May 16–17) as a more cost-effective alternative to the US Open
  • IKED Competition (June 12–14)
  • Olympic Day activities in June
  • Invitational Tournament (July 11–12)
  • Potential participation in the Karate 1 Series A Guadalajara (July 16–19)
  • Orlando Open (September 12)
  • Panama Tournament (September 25–27)

Not all events will be attended by the full team, as participation will depend on individual commitment and resources.

International Tournament Considerations

The team is currently evaluating participation in a major international (Commonwealth-level) tournament. Due to:

  • High travel and accommodation costs
  • Visa requirements and deadlines
  • Ongoing global uncertainties

Future Planning & Development

Additional initiatives discussed include:

  • Hosting a self-defense seminar
  • Strengthening liaison roles between TKA and TTKU
  • Organizing a Jamaica event (July/August 2027) in the Montego Bay area

End-of-Year Event

An end-of-year activity is tentatively scheduled for November 29, 2026, aimed at bringing members together to close out the season.

Looking Ahead

The retreat reflected TKA’s continued commitment to growth, structure, and competitive excellence. With a stronger training system and a full calendar of events, 2026 is shaping up to be a dynamic year for all members.
