The 4th International Karate Daigaku World Cup was held at the National Gymnasium in Georgetown, Guyana, from 16th – 21st July. Sixty-six Trinidad and Tobago Karate Association (TKA) competitors entered the tournament. Among the participating 15 regions were Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, USA, Canada, Grenada, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. The tournament comprised:
- Individual Kata and Kumite
- Team Events of Kata, Bunkai, Enbu, and Kumite

Trinidad and Tobago competed in all 8 age categories which ranged from 5-7 years to 50+. Our youngest competitor was 7 years old and our oldest was 64. There was an opportunity to create teams with combined countries in the 8-10 male and female age divisions. Trinidad and Tobago combined with Barbados for female team kata and Canada joined two of our athletes for male team bunkai. In both cases, the teams captured first place.
Head Coach and Chief Instructor of the Trinidad and Tobago Karate Association (TKA), Dr. Nicole Lambie, and her cohort of skilled instructors from dojos across the country led the Trinidad and Tobago team to victory, participating in 86 events, walking away with a whopping 242 medals (178 gold, 44 silver, 20 bronze), and ultimately winning the tournament country cup.
